Waste Water Treatment Plant
The WWTP is located on Industrial Road at the end of Lumber Street. It serves the entire Borough of Highspire and portions of Lower Swatara Township. The plant, originally build in 1960, expanded in 1987 and again in 2011, is designed to treat an average of 2 million gallons of waste water a day. The WWTP is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the plant as well as 11 miles of sanitary sewer lines. The plants operating hours are Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
The Sewer Authority, who owns the plant, just finished up the construction of the new plant expansion. This work was done to comply with new EPA regulations for the cleanup of the Chesapeake Bay. The expansion included two oxygenation ditches, three new clarifies tanks, several pumping stations, and a new control building.
